In 1964 I was one of several musicians from New York who went to Atlantic City to play for the Miss America Pageant. One evening, after the day's rehearsal was over, a few of us took a walk to Atlantic Avenue where we came upon a little jazz club called the 730 Lounge. To our pleasant surprise, our friend Charlie Shavers was appearing there with a local rhythm section. Charlie was an incredible musician and trumpet player. A lot of great music and this photograph of Charlie came out of that night.
