Benny Goodman/Louis Armstrong Tour

Trombonist Rex Peer's father-in-law, Claire Benton, took this photograph of the finale of the Benny Goodman/Louis Armstrong Tour somewhere in the midwest. The band is seen playing umpteen choruses of the “Saints Go Marching In.” Saxes from left to right: Sol Schlinger, Willie Smith, Georgie Auld, Clint Neagley; trombones: Vernon Brown, Rex Peer; trumpets: Louis Armstrong, Ziggy Elman, Al Stewart, Charlie Shavers. In the back are Joe Bushkin, Teddy Wilson, Israel Crosby, Trummy Young, Cozy Cole, Arvel Shaw, and Barney Bigard. Gene Krupa is playing Cozy's drums behind Louis and Cozy is playing Gene's drums. Mr. Benton was so thrilled at Rex being in such company that he followed the band around the midwest taking pictures.
