Los
Angeles, CA: Women In Photography International (WIPI) announces an
international call for entries for "virtual * visual : people -
places - things," an international juried online photographic exhibition
of works by female photographers. Deadline for entries is July 1, 2004,
midnight PST. Exhibition will run from August 1 - October 1, 2004, at
www.WomenInPhotography.org.
"Virtual * visual" will feature 74 juried images on WIPI's
web site. The call for entries is open to female photographers, professional
and amateur, using any photographic process. The exhibit will reflect
a variety of work from fine art to photojournalism to commercial photography:
"virtually everything" women photograph. Entries must be submitted
as digital files at www.WomenInPhotography.org via the online form.
Women In Photography International was created in 1981 as a 501.c.3
educational outreach organization by women photographers to communicate
ideas, opportunities, and their passion for photography. In 1985, the
Distinguished Photographers Award was established to honor women who
have contributed significantly to the world of photography. Previous
winners include Eve Arnold, Ruth Bernhard, Judy Dater, Marion Post Wolcott,
Linda McCartney, Mary Ellen Mark, Ruth Orkin, Joyce Tenneson, Berenice
Abbott, and 2003 Award Winner Annie Leibovitz.
WIPI's online resource center provides member galleries, reference library,
and the F2-eZine, which contains articles from around the globe, marketing
news, photography links, book reviews, and competition listings, and
currently receives 40,000+ visitors/month.
"Because WIPI is an international organization and has such a strong
online presence, an online exhibit is the perfect venue to showcase
and promote the work and vision of female photographers worldwide,"
said Jean Ferro, photo artist and president of WIPI.
"Virtual * visual" will be curated by Carrie Villines, Photographer
and WIPI Professional Member. Carrie views the integration of photography
and technology as a powerful tool for redefining creativity, and recognizes
the ability of the Internet to further WIPI's mission of optimizing
exposure to an international audience.
Jurors include Jean Ferro, Photo Artist/WIPI President;
Maria Piscopo, Creative Services Consultant; Miriam
Romais, Managing Director, En Foco/New York; and Stuart
Vail, Editor-In-Chief/Publisher, TheScreamOnline.com. Additional
jurors to be announced. From the jurors' selection, viewers will be
able to vote online for the People's Choice Award.
Prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, People's Choice, and Best Professional
(USA and Foreign) and Amateur (USA and Foreign). There will also be
honorable mentions in each category. Prizes include WIPI memberships,
online photo galleries at WomenInPhotography.org, FotoQuote Pro 5.0
software, Fresh Lists marketing databases, Allworth Press photographic
books, Calument Photographic, and more.
The online exhibit will also be archived in WIPI's extensive online
archive on www.WomenInPhotography.org.
