I did this self portrait years ago after working on “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” where I had to transcribe six piccolo parts all written on one staff of the score. It was for the coal-car chase sequence, with endless running 16th-note triplets. Six-part harmony, three piccs were in pencil stems up, and three in red ink stems down, and they even crisscrossed at times. I went home with bleeding eyeballs, but had this idea for a drawing, so I did the pencil sketch before going to bed. I gave John Williams a framed copy.
